week 4- class chair task.

Nature Inspired Chair

This task involved finding a piece of nature and creating a chair inspired by the natural object. This chair was created by Nadine and myself by applying the Fibonacci method to our inspirational object. The design of the chair was inspired by a piece of pine tree. Initial concept sketches explore the texture, shape of branches, leaves and pine nut, to form solutions of a possible chair design. Below are some sketches of the first exploration of sample and discovering what aesthetics this piece of nature has and how this could be represented in a chair.

From the initial sketches chair forms were then explored taking elements discovered through the first series of sketches. The final design concept was derived from curved seating and angular frame structure to mimic the contrasts between the pine tree sample.

The final chair outcome differed slightly from the proposed concept idea due to the difficulties of materials used to make the chair. The metal wire was harder to bend and join together then expected and  some "trial and error" took place to try and create a supporting structure. Time did get the better of us,  and it resulted in tacking  the frame work together to meet the deadline.
